Sussex Seed Ball FAQS

WHEN'S THE BEST TIME TO PLANT MY SEED BALLS?

Generally we say you can plant our seed balls between March (after the last frost) and November. If you plant later in the year, the seeds will remain warm and cosy under ground before germinating in Spring.

If you are a planner like us, you can create your own planting calendar using this tool. It’ll help you figure out the best time to plant all your seeds, not just ours. Not only that, it’s free to get started.

WHAT MONTH WILL THE LAST FROST BE IN MY AREA?

As with planting times, the last frost date is different across each county and depends on several different elements such as landscape and elevation. However you can find a general indication of the last frost date where you live using this plant map (developed by the kind and clever people at plantmaps.com)

WHAT'S IN THE WILDFLOWER MIX SEED BALLS?

Our general wildflower mix includes perennials and annual seeds. This means you’ll see some quick growth with more flowers over time. In three years you will have a full showing of flowers which will come back year after year. Wildflower varieties include Meadow Buttercup, Cornflowers, Cowslips and Field Forget-me-nots. Full details of each mix can be found on the product pages.

WHAT OTHER SOIL MIXES DO YOU HAVE?

We have a wide variety of soil mixes including Claggy Clay, Woodland Wonder, Enchanting Chalk and a hand picked mix which is perfectly safe for your pets.
